Right to Food and Work Campaign, West Bengal

On November 14, 2018 the Ananda Bazar Patrika carried a report of 7 alleged starvation deaths amongst the Lodha Sabar Community (declared as Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group or PVTGs by the Government) at a village called Jangal Khas in Binpur 1 block of Jhargram district. A team from the Right to Food and Work Campaign West Bengal visited the area on 19 th November 2018 to investigate the incidents. While in the area, we got reports that another four people from the same community had been hospitalised, and one of them had died on the way to the hospital. So we visited their villages, Jhitka and Bhumi Dhansol, also under Binpur 2. The names of team members and the people we spoke to are given in Annexure 1. আমাদের দাবিসমুহঃ   ১। প্রতি হাতে কাজ চাই, প্রতি পাতে ভাত চাই। ২। পাঁচ রকম নয় একরকম রেশন কার্ডে মাথাপিছু ১৪ কেজি শস্য, ১ কেজি ৫০০ গ্রাম ডাল, ৮০০ মিলি ভোজ্য তেল, ১ লিটার কেরোসিন তেল দিতে হবে। আটার পরিবর্তে গম দিতে হবে। ৩। আইন মেনে ২০১৩ থেকে বকেয়া সহ প্রত্যেক গর্ভবতী ও প্রসূতি মায়েদের ৬০০০ টাকা করে মাতৃত্বকালীন ভাতা দিতে হবে। ৪। ১০০ দিনের কাজের আইন মেনে আবেদন করার সাথে সাথে কাজ দিতে হবে।  ৫। দুর্নীতিমুক্ত গনবন্টন ব্যবস্থা চালু করতে রেশন দোকানে ক্যাশ মেমো দিতে হবে। দোকান ভিত্তিক নজরদারি কমিটি ও রাজ্য খাদ্য কমিশন গঠন করতে হবে। ৬। চা বাগানে সরকারি রেশন ছাড়াও বেতনের অংশ হিসাবে মালিকদের থেকে প্রাপ্য রেশন দিতে হবে। সমস্ত বকেয়া রেশন মিটিয়ে দিতে হবে। ৭। মাথাপিছু বছরে ২৪০ দিন করে কাজ এবং কেন্দ্রীয় কমিশনের সুপারিশ অনুযায়ী দইনিক ৬০০ টাকা করে মজুরি দিতে হবে। ৮। অসংগঠিত ক্ষেত্রের সমস্ত ৫০ বছরের ঊর্ধ্বে শ্রমিকদের মাসে নুন্যতম ৯ হাজার টাকা করে পেনশন দিতে হবে। ৯। সমস্ত গৃহবধূকে অসংগঠিত শ্রমিকের মর্যাদা ও সমস্ত সুযোগ সুবিধা দিতে হবে। ১০। সমস্ত রকম দুর্নীতি বন্ধে কেন্দ্রীয় ও রাজ্য সরকারকে কঠোর ব্...

On 4.4.18 Supreme Court ordered four states Assam, West Bengal, Tamilnadu and Kerala to pay tea garden workers 127 Crores as interim relief for unpaid dues. Management has been ordered to appear in Supreme Court on next date for repayment over 400 crores of dues. We had paid visit to some of the tea gardens where non-implementation of Court order like due list was not prepared and hanged, workers were forced to fill up balnk forms etc. were clearly visible. so, in order to bring justice to the unpaid labourers and proper implentation of Supreme Court Order, Right to Food and Work Campaign, West Bengal along with Paschimbanga Khet Majoor Samity had organized a Worker's convention on 10th June, 2018 at Dimdima Tea from 10 Pm.
